SLIPKNOT to release 4th album in August

According to HMV.co.uk, Roadrunner Records has set an August 11 UK release date (one day later in the U.S.) for the much-anticipated new SLIPKNOT album. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" is scheduled to be recorded with producer Dave Fortman, who has previously worked with MUDVAYNE and EVANESCENCE.

SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED will lead the first-ever Rockstar Energy Mayhem festival, set to kick off July 9 at the White River Amphitheatre in Seattle. Joining SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED on the main stage will be DRAGONFORCE and MASTODON. In addition, the tour will have two second stages: one sponsored by Jägermeister and featuring AIRBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, 36 CRAZYFISTS and the Jägermeister Battle of The Bands Winner. An additional second stage will feature MACHINE HEAD, BLACK TIDE, SUICIDE SILENCE, THE RED CHORD, and WALLS OF JERICHO.

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan recently told Revolver magazine that the masked nine-piece from Iowa is coming from a "different place" as it prepares to record its fourth major label album. When asked what has changed since "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", Crahan replied, "I can't stress enough that we're going into this from a different place. When we did (2001 album) 'Iowa', we hated each other. We hated the world; the world hated us. The next record ('Vol. 3') was like rehabilitation. We had all this healing that needed to happen. Now, everything feels good because we feel good."

SLIPKNOT went on hiatus at the end of 2005, when it finished touring in support of "Vol. 3". Since then the band members have worked on various other projects, including a second album from singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root's STONE SOUR.

Crahan said, "These breaks that we take, they get our appetites going. They let our brains slow down and then speed up again. We gotta decompress for a little bit just to feel human if we're going to be forced to be here in this reality."

SLIPKNOT Guitarist Posts Update

SLIPKNOT guitarist Mick Thomson has issued the following update:

"Been away for a bit. I'm sure I was missed. Or something. Or not.

"I'm here to confirm the [Rockstar Energy] Mayhem tour rumor shit and say that we are starting to record in a couple weeks. We have been writing for a while and we are trying to be done recording some time in late March. Regardless, we will be back on the road this summer and for the better part of the next two years. New stage show, set list, visuals, expectations. We don't repeat ourselves as artists and know that fans don't want the same either."

SLIPKNOT is scheduled to enter the studio this month with producer Dave Fortman, who's previously worked with MUDVAYNE and EVANESCENCE. An August release via Roadrunner is expected.

ROCKSTAR MAYHEM announce official tour dates

Since the mid-1990s, Kevin Lyman's Warped Tour and Sharon Osbourne's Ozzfest have both managed to coexist amiably within a cutthroat summer touring market rife with competition. While Warped — which turns 14 this summer — has long catered to the needs of the punk and emo faithful, Ozzfest — now entering its 12th year of existence — has been there to keep the nation's hardcore metal fans in check.

But that's all about to change. In addition to this summer's Warped Tour, Lyman is also launching a metal festival in direct competition with Ozzfest. Rumors have already been spreading that this summer's Ozzfest will be heading out on a smaller run than in past years, following last summer's free, corporate-sponsored version.

Anchored by headliners Slipknot and Disturbed, both of whom plan on releasing new material this spring, Lyman's inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem festival will be the first serious competition Ozzfest has faced since its inception. On Thursday morning (January 31), Lyman confirmed the tour's lineup to MTV News.

The tour will also feature Mastodon and DragonForce on the main stage, and Sevendust, Airborne, Five Finger Death Punch, 36 Crazyfists, Machine Head, Black Tide, Suicide Silence, the Red Chord and Walls of Jericho on two separate side stages. Many of the bands comprising the energy-drink-supported festival's bill have appeared in prior Ozzfests.

"This summer, we are truly bringing mayhem," Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor said in a press release. "Slipknot is excited to be a part of it, and to be able to bring the new chapter of our history to the masses. We are already working, building and designing a new show. We cannot wait. We cannot lose. Get ready for Mayhem."

Disturbed's David Draiman said his band is looking forward to being on the tour's first bill. "It's a great lineup, which should set a new standard for rock tours, and we're excited to be a part of it," he said.

The tour will get under way July 9 in Seattle and runs through August 21 in Holmdel, New Jersey.

SLIPKNOT Frontman To Guest On New WALLS OF JERICHO Release

Detroit's WALLS OF JERICHO is wrapping up work on its new EP, to be released in March 2008 on Trustkill. Produced by SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor at his Iowa home studio, the CD will be included with WALLS OF JERICHO's "Live in South America" DVD, which was filmed this past August. In addition to frontwoman Candace Kucsulain's singing voice, heretofore only glimpsed in rare moments on WALLS OF JERICHO's albums, the upcoming release will feature acoustic instruments, fleshed out arrangements, and Taylor's voice on several songs.

Taylor met WALLS OF JERICHO when the band shared the stage with STONE SOUR on The Family Values Tour. He previously said in a statement, "I love this band, and the fact that their trust in me makes me incredibly grateful. I'm so excited to do this — it's going to be amazing!!! I've never produced anything like this before, so I'm going a little crazy. I can't wait."

WALLS OF JERICHO is fronted by Candace Kucsulain, who defines the word "intense," whether melodically singing or delivering earth-shattering screams. Rounded out by Chris Rawson (guitar), Mike Hasty (guitar) and Aaron Ruby (bass) the band has been touring relentlessly in support of its third album, "With Devils Amongst Us All".

SLIPKNOT percussionist: "When we did Iowa, we hated each other"

In the latest issue of REVOLVER magazine, SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn 'CLOWN' Crahan informed readers that the band will release a new album in 2008.

So, we're definitely going to see a new Slipknot record this year?

CLOWN: Oh yeah, for sure.

What else will be different?

CLOWN: I can't stress enough is that we're going into this from a different place. When we did Iowa, we hated each other. We hated the world; the world hated us. The next record was like rehabilitation. We had all this healing that needed to happen. Now, everything feels good because we feel good.

SLIPKNOT is rumored to be touring with DISTURBED and MUDVAYNE in the summer of 2008.
