MESHUGGAH Tour Dates With MINISTRY

It’s been three years since their last tour and last album, but with their highly-anticipated new masterpiece, obZen, slated for release in the U.S. and Canada on March 11th, a new Swedish My Space pre-listening promotion record for a ¼ of a million album streams, and Blender Magazine’s “Best Heavy Metal Drummer” & Guitar World’s #35 ranked “Greatest Metal Guitarists” in tow, Sweden’s MESHUGGAH are ready to bring their trademarked arrhythmia back to North America on Ministry’s “C-U-LaTour” Farewell Tour.

A truly lateral-thinking force genuinely dedicated to pushing the boundaries of extreme music, MESHUGGAH have spent the last twenty years developing and exploring their metric art. It’s never shocking to see some of the biggest names in metal standing in the wings at MESHUGGAH shows shaking their heads at the band’s (di)versions of standard 4/4 time. States Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter, “Through all these years, I’ve been waiting to hear someone that does something more pummeling, and it’s just not coming. Their stuff changed my life.” Not surprisingly, the band’s discography underwent scholarly analysis at the 34th Annual Meeting of The Music Theory Society of New York State in 2006, and the article, “Re-casting Metal: Rhythm & Meter in the Music of MESHUGGAH” was published in Music Theory Spectrum, the journal of The Society for Music Theory in the latter half of 2007.

With obZen primed to become another testament of MESHUGGAH’s importance to the fields of recording and performing arts, it’s safe to say that MESHUGGAH is to music what Sir Isaac Newton is to calculus.

FILTER releases Soldiers Of Misfortune single for streaming

"Soldiers of Misfortune", the new single from the reactivated FILTER, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. Produced by Josh Abraham (SLAYER, 30 SECONDS TO MARS, VELVET REVOLVER, STAIND, COURTNEY LOVE), the song — with its U2/BOWIE flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars — has been described by mainman Richard Patrick as a "sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song." The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.

"Soldiers of Misfortune" comes off FILETR's new album, "Anthems For The Damned", which is scheduled for release on May 13.

FILTER will preview tracks from "Anthems For The Damned" alongside such FILTER classics as "Hey Man, Nice Shot", "Take a Picture" and others when they hit the road for special California club shows next month. The band will follow the shows with additional U.S. shows just prior to the album's release, mixing headlining shows, festival appearances and radio shows.

"Anthems For The Damned" features such collaborators as guitarist/songwriter John 5, guitarist Wes Borland and drummer Josh Freese and marks FILTER's first release in five years since "The Amalgamut". Pointed and passionate, the new album traces Patrick's own anger and shame with the state of things, from the intense alternative industrial blast of "The Take", "What's Next" and "Hatred is Contagious", the ultimate resignation of "Kill the Day" and "Lie After Lie" to the tentative hope expressed by "Only You" and the ambient soundscape of the closing "Can Stop This".

WALLS OF JERICHO set April release date for acoustic themed album

Walls Of Jericho are reportedly eyeing an April 08th release date through Trustkill for their new MCD Redemption. The acoustic-themed effort was produced and features guest appearances by Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour fame. The band will tour on the ROCKSTAR MAYHEM tour this summer.

EYEHATEGOD – 20th Anniversary Celebrations To Include Live Album And DVD

2008 marks the 20th anniversary of New Orleans’ EYEHATEGOD. Vocalist Michael Williams recently spoke with BW&BK scribe Aaron Small and revealed that the band plans to release a live album titled, Eyehategod Live At CBGBs, sometime later this year. It will be issued via HouseCore Records – the label owned and operated by PANTERA/DOWN frontman Phil Anselmo.

“Phil plays on it actually. He played guitar at that show; it was a couple weeks before (Hurricane) Katrina. We had this gig booked for CBGBs when they were closing. They were doing all these awesome shows and they asked us to play. We had to do it. But then Brian, our guitar player, who’s in SOILENT GREEN, was on tour. It was like, fuck – what are we going to do? Phil just overheard the conversation and decided he would do it. That was his first time coming out after the thing with Dimebag. He hadn’t even been in public since then. He decided to do it with us, which I thought was cool. We practiced for a week and Phil learned all the songs. He knew them already, but we got tighter and went up to New York and played at CBGBs – it was great!”

According to Williams, Anselmo “wants to tone down the fact that he’s even on it. He doesn’t – and we don’t either – want it to be ‘Featuring Phil Anselmo.’ I wouldn’t want to sell a record like that. We just want to mention that he does play on it, ‘cause it’s not Brian. It’s not going to be a big deal on the album, but people will know he’s on it.”

Live At CBGBs will pre-date any new studio material from Eyehategod. “There’s some songs written, but Jimmy (Bower)’s schedule is just insane. With Brian doing Solient Green, they’re going out on tour. It’s been really hectic and kind of hard on Eyehategod, but we’re still a band. The spark’s still there, we just work as slow as we play. But we’re still doing it. The live shows are pretty easy to set up; it’s just writing this album that’s been hard. We’re hoping to have the Eyehategod DVD come out this year, which is a couple live shows and a bunch of unreleased stuff with some rare footage from back in the day – kind of like a 20-year retrospective. We’re working on that right now. MVD wants to put it out. They’re a cool company. It’s just a matter of getting everything together. I lost all my videos in the Hurricane (Katrina), so I’m trying to slowly get stuff back. Gary (Mader), our bass player, he’s got a bunch of stuff and Jimmy’s got some videos. It’s a matter of compiling it all. We’ll get it together.”

BURY YOUR DEAD guitarist was assaulted as part of gang initiation

Bury Your Dead have released an official statement on this past weekends incident in Milwaukee, WI, it reads as follows:
"On Saturday night, February 16th, BURY YOUR DEAD guitarist Eric Ellis was a victim of a random attack by 6 individuals following the band's set at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Eric was held at gunpoint while the men hit him multiple times with a baseball bat and hammer. Previous reports of a robbery are false, as the Milwaukee police department has classified it as a "gang initiation". Despite suffering what others would consider serious injuries Eric and the rest of BURY YOUR DEAD will move forward and continue with their tour alongside Hellyeah and take that into their headlining run with Emmure, The Warriors, and With Blood Comes Cleansing."

ROCKSTAR MAYHEM announce official tour dates

Since the mid-1990s, Kevin Lyman's Warped Tour and Sharon Osbourne's Ozzfest have both managed to coexist amiably within a cutthroat summer touring market rife with competition. While Warped — which turns 14 this summer — has long catered to the needs of the punk and emo faithful, Ozzfest — now entering its 12th year of existence — has been there to keep the nation's hardcore metal fans in check.

But that's all about to change. In addition to this summer's Warped Tour, Lyman is also launching a metal festival in direct competition with Ozzfest. Rumors have already been spreading that this summer's Ozzfest will be heading out on a smaller run than in past years, following last summer's free, corporate-sponsored version.

Anchored by headliners Slipknot and Disturbed, both of whom plan on releasing new material this spring, Lyman's inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem festival will be the first serious competition Ozzfest has faced since its inception. On Thursday morning (January 31), Lyman confirmed the tour's lineup to MTV News.

The tour will also feature Mastodon and DragonForce on the main stage, and Sevendust, Airborne, Five Finger Death Punch, 36 Crazyfists, Machine Head, Black Tide, Suicide Silence, the Red Chord and Walls of Jericho on two separate side stages. Many of the bands comprising the energy-drink-supported festival's bill have appeared in prior Ozzfests.

"This summer, we are truly bringing mayhem," Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor said in a press release. "Slipknot is excited to be a part of it, and to be able to bring the new chapter of our history to the masses. We are already working, building and designing a new show. We cannot wait. We cannot lose. Get ready for Mayhem."

Disturbed's David Draiman said his band is looking forward to being on the tour's first bill. "It's a great lineup, which should set a new standard for rock tours, and we're excited to be a part of it," he said.

The tour will get under way July 9 in Seattle and runs through August 21 in Holmdel, New Jersey.
